I saw that Death on the Nile just recently! It was so fun! I love watching Angela Lansbury swan around being ridiculous characters.

Totally a childhood fave of mine, and I feel it holds up really well? Whenever I rewatch it, I flash back to my father walking through the living room and muttering MACCORKINDALE, because he couldn't stand that actor, LOL. He did it EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. (...it suddenly occurs to me that I got a lot of my movie-watching behavior from him, hahahaha.)

But, YES, Angela is so fantastic in it. Her costumes ALONE, my goodness. Maggie Smith's little suits are also fab. And Mia Farrow is great as well. DAMMIT NOW I WANT TO WATCH IT AGAIN

YES to all of that. And I'm pretty sure I got a lot of my movie-watching behaviors from my dad too. It's definitely his fault that I love any movie featuring a guy in a stupid rubber monster suit.

OMG if you haven't seen the movie Sting of Death (1966, William Grefe), it might be right up your alley.

Just looked it up. I must see it, that's just what I love!

I think it's currently streaming on Tubi! (Which has a shockingly good collection of low budget horror and lesser-known 60s-70s eurohorror, it's ABSURD how many things I've found there!)

Those were the saddest pretend jellyfish I've ever seen! And the guy's costume! He just had a big plastic bag on his head! Fabulous. Thank you.

I kind of want to be watching Last of Sheila *right now* and feeling mad that's it has entirely escaped my attention before now. But, I will finish up my workday and all that. But soon! So soon!

And the book sounds good too, so putting that on the proverbial list too.

That's EXACTLY how I felt when I stumbled across it! I'm REALLY resistant to renting movies bc we have so many streaming services, but I made an exception because how could I not?? And then once I'd watched it, I immediately ordered the DVD so I'd have it on hand, heh.

Both of these sound AMAZING.

In my experience, it's the people who know just enough about boats to be obnoxious who insist on all the thar-she-blows terminology.

Hahahaha, it feels kind of gatekeepy to me, like when people correct other people about the plural of Lego being Lego. Stuff like that is funny—the details are different from activity to activity, but the basic behavior is always the same. Like it's a coded way of saying ARE YOU SURE YOU BELONG ON THIS HERE BOAT, MISSY? (Or ARE YOU SURE YOU'RE A *REAL* STAR WARS FAN?, or whatever. People!)

The book was lots of fun and I really am planning on picking up her other stuff; it was exactly what I felt like reading this weekend. Last of Sheila was even better on rewatch than the first time—I noticed so many more details in the clothes and sets and little acting moments than I did the first time, and Dyan Cannon truly is just making a meal of every single scene she's in. Watch for the bit where Coburn is monologuing on and on and on and she interrupts him while eating the most ENORMOUS sandwich, it's amazing and I fell over laughing.

Haha, YES, so gatekeeper-y. That kind of thing always brings to mind the guy in my high school PE class who I WASN'T EVEN TALKING TO who repeatedly corrected my pronunciation of Lara Croft.

I hope I have time to watch this tonight. Also, I want that movie poster.

ZOMG, AMAZING. I hope that guy has learned how to interact with other people since then, otherwise I weep for his current coworkers, ugh.

Let me know if you end up watching it! (And if you do, let me know if you end up loving Dyan Cannon as much as we do, hahaha.)

Argh I passed on Lying in the Deep because I thought the cover was such trash. They're going in the right direction with the brass porthole but the bloody handprint is less 'breezy whodunit' and more 'vengeful mermaid'. Which, I love me a carnivorous mermaid but I don't usually buy them for my jobbity job.

I too am crazy into Dyan Cannon and I will take all the Baby Al I can get. Even the poster rules. Gonna watch this!

I largely snapped it up bc I knew going in that it was Death on the Nile—to me, the cover says GENERIC THRILLER, which is usually a pass for me bc good lord who can keep up with them all?

Also, less than 15 minutes ago I just said YES to a pitch email which literally had something to do with carnivorous mermaids, hahahaha.

Let me know what you think of Last of Sheila! We (obviously) thought it was wicked fun!

So glad to see you here, it's starting to feel like Ye Olde Blog Times. <3

I think I've read 6 carnivorous or otherwise dangerous mermaid books in the past 2 years alone. Not mad at it though.

Ye Olde Blog Times - LOL before we all sold out (for pitiful scraps of $$)!!!

Have you watched The Lure? Polish musical set in the 80s loosely based on The Little Mermaid? I *suspect* that it would be your jam.
