I love the TITLE of Justina's story, but seriously - I cannot with these summer camp scares. Despite having worked at a camp for six years, I am still a tinge freaked out by the darkdarkdark woods and vanishing children - as much as I was when I started as a seven year old (yes, my older sisters went to camp, so I got tossed in as a much-too-young bonus camper. Nepotism! Or something).
Way down on my Dumb Money list is a q-snap frame for embroidering bigger projects. I am still a rank amateur, of course, but I love doodling with thread and am in my Embroider Thrift Store Clothes era, so I know I'll get to bigger projects eventually. I can't wait to see your finished project!
It's been a heckuva start to 2024 so far, but we're upright and taking nourishment, so can't complain...
I *totally* GET IT about the woods being scary, but I very much veer in the other direction—the more people around, the more nervous I get, hahaha.
I'm using this wooden floor-standing frame (https://amzn.to/3xyPedD) and I *love* it. It was of a way higher quality than I expected for the price, and it feels like it'll last for years and years and years. I'm so impressed/in awe of people who can DOODLE at all, let alone with thread. I can replicate things/follow a pattern like there's no tomorrow, but if I have to be, like, CREATIVE, I immediately panic and freeze.
That Camp Scare. I don't know if I can read it even though I want to.
Are you a fellow embroidery maniac?? Woohoo! I have never attempted one of those full coverage monsters. Instead I have 20 different projects, the monster being a 17th century style casket. https://thistle-threads.thinkific.com/
When I clicked through and saw your project, my jaw literally dropped. That is SO. COOL. and SO. INTENSE.
Well I wish SOMEONE would read Camp Scare and talk with me about it—I want to know if it really is as dark as I think it is, or if I'm being a baby, lolol.
Well I'll see what I can do; I wound up ordering it for my library, so I'll have it. It's just liable to bring up memories!
My casket is so intense that I'm pretty terrified of it! The instructor provides a LOT of scaffolding, which I badly need. Before a scary bit (such as the cute parrot that comes next) I usually have to stall for a bit and build up my courage.
The afghan turned out so gorgeously!
