Oh, my, WORD drawing a veil over the septic situation, as it's bringing back memories of last summer's excitement here with tree roots and drains which is even now being reprised in some neighborhoods as, due to the excessive rain, the official word is to keep kids out of jumping in puddles... Just in case...😖
Since I am READING this at 3:30AM on a school night after having purchased yet another pair of cheap canvas shoes to attempt a new embroidery project, I am delighted by your weather/equinox/temperature/season merit badge knitting project which requires a SPREADSHEET because who doesn't need that level of intensity to launch into the New Year??
I'm also so sorry to hear about your kitty. I had an unexpected loss this week as well, and I am admittedly shaken. *sends silent hugs*
HP Lovecraft reminds me that once upon a time I loved the Sturm und Drang and musicality (and tome-like page lengths) of 19th c British and American Literature so much it made perfect sense to make it my undergrad major concentration. (I was either a lot smarter then, or a lot dumber, jury's still out.) I often look back at Younger Me and just slowly shake my head...
Uuuuughhhhh, when a septic/sewer situation is so bad that kids can't jump in puddles, WOOF and also YIKES.
Embroidery is one of those fiber arts that I've always WANTED to learn but apparently don't have the patience to get past the being bad at it part? I have done multiple crazy quilt squares out of scraps and then embroidered, like, one tiny thing and then thought about how much more I'd need to do to make it look how I imagined and immediately noped right out, LOL.
I think, too, that I associate it much more with creative folks—people who can, like, WING IT and be like... I shall put a flower on this, oh maybe I'll add some vines, ooo yes, that looks so nice, oh maybe I'll just put a ladybug here, tra la la, whereas I can't do anything without, you know, spreadsheets. I would be VERY into seeing your rad embroidered shoes, that's such a fun idea, and canvas shoes are a perfect choice because they're cheap AND not overwhelming?
I'm so sorry about your loss. *hugs right back at you*
Lovecraft is one of those writers that I appreciate some things about—but I also can't take him TOO seriously, because he takes HIMSELF so seriously that it's just absurd and I always end up rolling my eyes a LOT, which is maybe part of what I find enjoyable? I listened to an audio version of Call of Cthulhu while walking a while back, and I was LITERALLY and probably VERY AUDIBLY muttering OMG CALM DOWN HOWARD the whole way through, heh.
I'm so sorry about your Maggie. Losing a beloved cat is so rough.
I've never been able to get much into Lovecraft because of the tremendous lack of chill. I like "The Colour Out Of Space." That's pretty much it. But I am SO ENVIOUS of your library merit badges and I wish my library had them! It wouldn't make much sense at my work library (a community college) and the public library probably couldn't afford them (the Friends pays for everything but the staff and the electricity). Though maybe I should run it by S. and the Friends...?
I embroider a lot, but I've only recently loosened up enough to do things my way. It's entirely possible to spend years doing exactly what the pattern says to do!
I'm so sorry to hear about Maggie. We sent Sasquatch to kitty heaven last summer, just a couple weeks after her 20th birthday. It's awful. Give Lemon all the snuggle you both need.
Oh, I'm so sorry about Sasquatch. Twenty is an amazing run. No matter how much we try to prepare ourselves, I think, it's just so awful and hard. We've got Maggie's ashes now, which helps, having her back in the house.
