Oooo, that all makes it even more intriguing! One of the blurbs—from PW, maybe?—said that it just drops the reader right into the middle of things and forces you to catch up via immersion (instead of a lot of exposition), which I *love*, so I'm excited! ...that said, I just started A Master of Djinn right before work, so we'll see how much I actually get through this weekend, LOL.
I'm reading The Bare-Sarked Warrior: A Brief Cultural History of Battlefield Exposure, which is research for my current book project (a biography collection centered on women erased from history). And I'm re-reading Franny Billingsley's Chime to rest my brain before bed!
I just looked it up and it sounds IMMEDIATELY fascinating? (And obviously I'm always here for books about women erased from history, so that's an exciting project!!)
I haven't read Chime since it came out, what a good idea for a revisit. <3
(OMG I just checked, and it looks like Billingsley had a new book come out last year?? I had no idea, so I'm adding it to my library order RIGHT. NOW.)
OOH, The Robber Girl sounds amazing. I'm *just* starting on The Bare-Sarked Warrior, but I finished the Vinland Sagas yesterday and Freydis Eiriksdottir was both terrifying and hilarious. I love the image of a pregnant woman scaring off invaders while the professional warriors are fleeing all around her.
THAT is an image that I'd imagine that folks who are/have been pregnant will VERY MUCH appreciate, it seems like one that we don't see often, but SHOULD??
The cover of Notorious Sorcerer is GORGEOUS. (Again with the covers, Tanita.) I look forward to eventually getting there, if you don't get there first. I mean "malevolent harpies" in the description just made me snicker.
Gideon the Ninth is weird and strange and challenging and completely brilliant. Can't wait to hear what you think!

What do you have going right now?
